Showcasing Reading Schools in East Lothian

Teachers from over 15 schools joined us at a twilight session to learn more about Reading Schools

In late January, we joined our good friends from East Lothian Council to meet learning professionals and talk about our Reading Schools partnership.

Organised by Schools & Young People’s Services' Senior Librarian, Carolyn Dineen, the twilight session at Preston Lodge High School brought together teachers from over 15 primary and secondary schools to hear more about Reading Schools and how the programme can help develop the reading for pleasure culture in their respective settings.

The session also saw Principal Teacher Kirsty Sandilands showcase the fantastic work of Cockenzie Primary School and their newly achieved Silver accreditation. We also had the pleasure of presenting Meadowpark Communication Provision’s Fiona Chandron with her school’s Core award.

Carolyn delivered an inspiring presentation, setting out the support of the local authority’s library services together with bespoke resources to promote Reading Schools and reading for pleasure practice across East Lothian.

Twenty-four East Lothian schools are currently registered for Reading Schools and are working away towards either their first or subsequent accreditations.

Support is being offered to all East Lothian Literacy Leads through a series of online drop-ins and bespoke resources in partnership with East Lothian Council. Contact us for more information.

The Reading Schools team are very happy to support these kinds of events for local authorities across Scotland. Please contact us at readingschools@scottishbooktrust.com(this will open in a new window) to discuss.
