Welcome to our Reading Schools community
What is the Reading Schools community?
Reading Schools is more than just an individual accreditation – it’s also a community of schools across Scotland that value, celebrate and share their reading for pleasure culture. In short, it’s you!
Reading Schools come in many shapes and sizes and find themselves at very different developmental stages of building their reading culture, and there’s a space here for all approaches. As part of our community, you can find inspiration from settings across Scotland or work together more locally on a (this will open in a new window)Reading Schools Cluster award.
You can also use our (this will open in a new window)live Map of locations to quickly find other schools in your area at a similar stage of the process to collaborate on your accreditation.
Reading Schools encouraged and enabled us to actively reach out and build supportive relationships beyond the school – it helped to provide momentum, explain to our colleagues and community the importance of this work, and to reflect and improve on our strategy.
How can our community support your reading for pleasure journey?
With over 1,000 schools involved from every Local Authority in Scotland, there’s sure to be someone else experiencing and overcoming similar barriers to you, and driving forwards a positive reading culture in their local area. You can find inspiration from our Reading Schools community as you work towards starting or completing your accreditation, or you might be here to help inspire others and share your own great practice.
My Reading Leadership Group really appreciated the chance to share what they have been doing – it made my group feel like they had a bigger worth than just being a school group, because they are a part of a bigger picture across Scotland! It created a buzz in school and others are starting to prick their ears up and wanting to get involved.
How do you become a part of our Reading Schools community?
That’s easy – register with Reading Schools to get your application started, and explore the website or join our (this will open in a new window)live and recorded webinars to meet other schools.
